Welcome to Run a Mutt Obedience!
We make sit happen
We are Balanced Trainers, which means that we can incorporate multiple different tools and training styles to customize your dogs training! ~ our motto is “Train the dog in front of you” which can mean different instruction for each individual dog and handler.
We believe in choosing what route you feel comfortable with, and offering up to date education if you would like to introduce a new training tool or style if the current is not showing results. Training should be a fun bonding moment with your dog and we want to provide a safe and shame free environment to achieve your desired goals.
“Don’t shame - just train!”

Comox Valley’s Only SportDOG Brand GPS Collar Adventure Hikes
“Just when it seemed GPS tracking technology couldn’t get any better, SportDOG Brand® has again changed the game with the introduction of the TEK Series 2.0 Tracking System. In terms of range, accuracy, and reliability, the TEK Series 2.0 Tracking System surpasses every other system on the market. Preloaded 1:100,000 full-color topo maps keep you on course while the system provides feedback on your dog’s location or even up to 21 dogs simply by adding additional collars (TEK-2L) to the system.”
“I want my dog to go on your adventure hike! How do I know she is right for an off leash hike?”
Dogs who venture with us should be ready for a fun day! Your dog should be physically fit to handle up to two hours on an all terrain trail, be dog and human friendly, as well as have excellent off leash recall!
*Even though we use GPS collars dogs still need a solid recall - no exceptions*
“What vaccinations does my dog require?”
We need your Mutt up to date/titre tested on their:
DHPP
Rabies
We recommend these vaccinations as your pup will be in contact with many dogs and new environments, be sure to consult your veterinarian if you are considering the below as they are considered a non core vaccine:
Bordatella (Kennel Cough)
Leptospirosis
Lyme
**we highly suggest putting your dog on flea and tick control**
“What collars and equipment can my Mutt wear?”
Our Mutts need a flat collar with up to date ID! They will wear our SportDOG Brand GPS Trackers or Tractive Collar. New Mutts will wear a long line which will be attached to their flat collar. Training Collars are allowed, please note we are not responsible for lost or damaged equipment.
Muzzles are also permitted as long as they are a basket muzzle and not soft occlusion muzzle and are the proper size and circumference for your Mutt to have proper pant room. Ask us if you are not sure on muzzle sizing !
We do not allow harnesses, prong collars, or gentle leaders on our Mutts while they are off leash to prevent potential damage to the dogs as they play or getting hung up in the bush.
“How many dogs can you take out?”
We have a 10:1 ratio with our adventure Mutts ~ the total number is determined by staffing available that day.
“How do I book my Mutt in?”
Pups require a meet and greet to see if they are a good fit for our program! Please sign up for a Gingr account and book a meet and greet with us. We look forward to meeting you and your Mutt!

All about the babies! For young dogs under five months old, we break out the lick mats and go at a slower pace to ensure the youngsters get to sniff and see what tools we are using and how they feel and sound like. Nails Trims
An essential part of maintenance for every dog is their nails and keeping them an appropriate length. Long nails can cause damage long term as they change the way a dog walks and can cause discomfort.
With years of experience, we are able to get nails short without quicking the dog, in a timely manner and are armed with cookies (if there are no food allergies) when the nail trim is over to create a positive association and experience for everyone!
